10Q | CODY MAYO

Cody Mayo is just as comfortable on the racetrack as he is at an industry party. This Texas native had performed in over thirty plays before turning sixteen, so he is a natural on the stage as well as in front of the camera. After appearing in several films and television shows, he now plays Vaughn in the popular Marvel series, Runaways.

Modesty aside, how would you describe yourself?

An introvert that lives in an extroverted world. I greatly enjoy being social, but I definitely need my “me” time. I also approach my work as an artist similar to that of an athlete. I study a lot, work out, and I’m hardly ever satisfied.

How does it feel to win the jackpot as an actor and being in Marvel’s “Runaways”?

The whole experience has been such a gift. Everyone involved is so talented at what they do. I feel very blessed to be a part of the Marvel Universe.

You grew up in Texas and went to college in Oklahoma. How is Los Angeles different from other major cities?

I was the first in my family to go to college and end up moving to a big city. I am from a very small Texas town called Saginaw. So LA has less cowboy hats, fewer cow pastures, and not as many Ford truck commercials featuring a hot and bothered rancher. I LOVE LA! Beaches, mountains, terrible traffic – what’s not to love?

Where do you like to go, or do when you have a night off?

Upright Citizens Brigade. I love to laugh so any chance I get to see one of their shows I go. I also love to see bands around the city and theatre of course.

Give me names of three actors/actresses that you would want to work with.

Cillian Murphy- probably my favorite actor at the moment.

Ruth Wilson

Mirelle Enos

Aziz Ansari

What’s new on your play list?

John Moreland & John Calvin Abney, Anderson Paak, Angela Parish, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Chance The Rapper. And I’m listening to a lot of Lady Gaga at the moment.

What’s your favorite charity or cause?

With all of the disasters that have occurred this year I have tried to give directly to the communities affected. I just gave to Ricky Martins Puerto Rico fund.

What living person do you most admire?

My wife. I don’t know how she puts up with me. 😉

What exciting project do you have coming up?

Marvel’s RUNAWAYS! November!

Tell me a secret-a good one.

I used to race stock cars in Texas! My dad did it as a hobby for over 20 years, so I practically grew up at the racetrack. I’ll get back behind the wheel when the time is right.
