#Page2Mondays Movement Launches To Support Small
+ Medium Size Businesses Amid COVID-19
Bypass Page 1 of Online Search When Shopping on Mondays and Start With Page 2
WHAT?
A movement to encourage consumers to support medium and small size businesses by bypassing page 1 of their Google search when doing online shopping on Mondays. According to Time magazine, the first day of the workweek is also almost always the biggest day of the week for online shopping.
Retail eCommerce may well be an industry worth $3.53 trillion, but it is also an incredibly competitive one.
According to Forbes, the first page of Google captures 71% of search traffic clicks and has been reported to be as high as 92% in recent years. Second-page results are far from a close second coming in at below 6% of all website clicks.
WHY?
It is increasingly more difficult and expensive for medium and small size businesses to land on page 1 of a Google or other search engine searches. Large corporations have the means to purchase paid ads and have their teams optimize search results so they can be on page 1 of search and on top. It is virtually impossible to compete with Walmart, Target, Macy’s, Best Buy, Apple, and other corporations that have annual marketing budgets in the millions.
According to an article in Digital Synopsis titled, ‘Why Page 2 of Google Search Results Is The Best Place To Hide A Dead Body,’ page 1 results enjoy 95% of all search traffic. Traffic drops 95% from page 1 to page 2 of results, 78% from page 2 to page 3, and 58% from page 3 to page 4.
AND?
Mom & Pop businesses do not have a chance to compete for consumes’ attention. The system is setup so that big business can dominate online retail and the monopoly continues. They do this by in different ways:
They manipulate Google’s Search Engine Results Page (SERP) feature. SERP is any result on a is not a traditional organic result.
They buy Product Listing Ads (PLA), more commonly called Google Shopping ads.
They buy Pay Per Click (PPC) , a form of paid digital marketing where advertisers pay a fee each time their ad is clicked.
The have staff, consultants, or agencies that do their website’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results.
NUTSHELL?
As a consumer, you have the power to bypass big business one day a week and support small and independent business owners by bypassing page 1 of your online search. There is nothing wrong with buying products from big corporation, as most of us do. But, it is more imperative now than ever for all of us to do our part to support average Americans and not corporate shareholders, at least one day a week.
