Moments ago, Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan declared that he signed a statement with the presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia to end the war in Artsakh.
Dear compatriots, sisters and brothers.
I have made a difficult, extremely difficult decision for myself and for all of us.
I have signed a statement with the Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan on ending the Karabakh war at 01:00.
The text of the statement that has already been published is unspeakably painful for me personally and for our people.
I made that decision as a result of an in-depth analysis of the military situation and the assessment of the people who know the situation best. Also based on the belief that this is the best possible solution to the current situation. I will give a detailed message about all this in the coming days.
This is not a victory, but there is no defeat until you find yourself defeated. We will never recognize ourselves as losers and this should be the beginning of our era of national unification and rebirth.
We need to analyze the years of our independence in order to plan our future and not repeat the mistakes of the past.
I kneel before all our martyrs. I bow to all our soldiers, officers, generals, volunteers who have defended and are defending the homeland with their lives. They selflessly saved the Armenians of Artsakh.
We fought to the end. And we will win. Artsakh is standing.
Long live Armenia! Long live Artsakh!
A 2,000-strong Russian peacekeeping force will be deployed for a minimum of five years to protect the land corridor between Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Azerbaijan will also gain passage to its Nakhchivan exclave which lies on the border with Turkey and Iran.
Putin said he expects the agreement “will create the conditions for a long-term settlement.”
Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan on Armenia’s Agreement with Azerbaijan, Russia
Dear Armenian compatriots,
Today throughout the entire day the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and I discussed our actions aimed at terminating military operations. Beforehand I also had discussions with the National Assembly and received the consent of an overwhelming majority of the deputies. Given the current heavy situation, and in order to avoid further massive human casualties and the complete loss of Artsakh, I have given my consent to end the war immediately. I will release a detailed message regarding the signed trilateral agreement later.
I extend my deepest condolences and pride to the relatives of our martyrs and to the entire nation. We will still have time for dialogue with the relatives of our fallen heroes and our soldiers regarding our actions. I bow before all of the people who invested even the smallest contribution into the hard work of defending the homeland.
Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan
