TransLatina Coalition: Front and Center
On Wednesday, October 3rd, the Lambda Literary Fest Los Angeles and TransLatina Coalition (TLC) hosted a panel discussion titled Fertile Ground: Stories Rooted in Our Trauma at the TransLatina Coalition offices.
Panelists were leading trans and gender expansive authors including, Bamby Salcedo, President and CEO of TLC, Jacob Anderson-Minshall, Deputy Editor of The Advocate magazine, Toni Newman, Executive Director of St. James Infirmary For Sex Worker Health and Jacob Tobia, renowned transqueer performer.
Later, Bamby Calcedo gave guests a tour of the TLC offices and facilities where countless trans, gender-queer and gender-non-conforming Angelinos go for help and to receive various services.
TLC’s Center for Violence Prevention & Transgender Wellness offers daily food distribution, leadership development, economic and workforce development, research, ESL classes, computer lab and peer therapy.
Members of the TLC are transgender Latina leaders who come together from all across the country, donating their time to organize and advocate for the issues and needs of Trans Latin community living in the United States.

G.A.R.R.A.S. (Ground Breaking Activism Redirecting & Reforming All Systems) is an annual fashion show and fundraiser event that highlights the Trans, Gender nonconforming community and their allies as high fashion models, designers and stylists while raising funds for the TransLatina Coalition. Through our G.A.R.R.A.S. event, Trans and Gender nonconforming communities and their allies demonstrate their talents, leadership and activism skills. Our G.A.R.R.A.S. event helps to redefine activism in recognition that every event participant is an activist who impacts their lives and that of others. Participants provide their art, time, talent and many other multiple skills while raising funds to uplift and mobilize the Trans & Gender nonconforming community to create a space of self-expression and total acceptance.
