Giving Tuesday: Real Progressives Support Media That Makes NPR Sound Like Fox ‘News’

By Vic Gerami

Community and Independent Media has never been more critical than it is now, amid a global pandemic and an unprecedented economic crisis.

People that work in newsrooms and corporate media that have over-relied on advertising dollars are gutting their operations. Corporate media like Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, Sinclair Broadcast Group, and many other news organizations have been inadequate in covering stories that might upset their advertisers and parent companies.

KPFK has never over-relied on underwriting to support its community service. It is proudly a nonprofit and audaciously depends on listeners and donors to provide the resources it needs to power its work.

“A station that strives to inspire and empower people, touch lives, and ultimately make our communities and the world a better place is worth supporting and KPFK is such a station,” said Anyel Fields, KPFK’s General Manager.

The voices heard on KPFK are needed amid the pandemic crises, the climate emergency, a failing presidency, and massive wealth inequality. Like many community organizations, the government is not bailing-out stations like KPFK that help further an understanding, providing a forum, or directly addressing these issues.

“KPFK is a progressive media outlet, challenging corporate media perspectives with spirited political debate, local news, public affairs, health, wellness, music and the arts. We serve the cultural welfare of all races, creeds and colors. We need KPFK now more than ever. Please Support Fearless Radio 90.7 KPFK… Power to the people,” said Kevin Fleming, KPFK’s Program Director.

KPFK needs the community to step up now before it is too late. YOU can help to continue the legacy of this institution that is one of the last truly independent sources of news, information, and opinion. On this Giving Tuesday, donate to help fund KPFK’s essential community service during this crisis and thereafter. It only takes a minute to contribute and you can choose the amount that is right for you. And when you do, you will discover that special pride of being a member of the KPFK Community.

“Taking part in Giving Tuesday can be exemplified in a variety of forms. Embrace whatever it may be that you have to offer today, because a giving can be someone’s blessing,” said Ricky Herrera, Producer, THE BLUNT POST with VIC.
